About Smith County Area Go Texan...

Area Go Texan committees from each of the participating Texas counties promote the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo through a variety of activities. Each county focuses on Show participation from its area. In turn, a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Go Texan Scholarship is awarded to a qualified, outstanding student representing each participating Go Texan county.

Each Area Go Texan county, like Smith County Area Go Texan, is it's own 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization which raises additional funds above the HLSR sponsored scholarship to support more county scholarships to deserving local students. This is accomplished through various county Area Go Texan events held by the local county and these scholarships are for our own Smith County students. Your support will continue to grow this program. 

In our first year (2014), Smith County had five students presented a $1,000 scholarship and a student from the Lindale, TX area received the $18,000 HLSR sponsored scholarship. 

As we have continued to grow and expand our scholarship capacity due to our success through your support, since our inception we have been blessed with expanding our program and contributions to over $700,000 in scholarships for our Smith county students since our inception in 2014...

so our Smith county students continue to be so blessed as a result of your continued support!

We are all extremely saddened by the loss of our dear friends and part of our founding membership, John & Wanda Tucker. In their honor, son Tracy has established a yearly perpetual scholarship equal to our individual scholarship level. The "John & Wanda Tucker Smith Co AGT Scholarship" will start with our 2026 awards. Thank You Tracy!
